ExxonMobil PNG Limited (EMPNG), the operator of the PNG LNG Project, has donated various medical supplies to Tari General Hospital as part of its support to Hela Province regarding the recent outbreak of measles in the province.
EMPNG Managing Director, Peter Graham said the donation was made to assist with the measles outbreak, which has already affected many people throughout Hela.
“This donation will help the authorities and medical personnel managing the issue to respond quickly and effectively. Our support has included eight vaccine fridges, thousands of syringes, antibiotics and vitamin A capsules, and more than 60 mattresses.
“As a neighbour in Hela, we want to contribute to fighting this disease,” he said.
Hela Governor Anderson Agiru was thankful for the support provided by EMPNG.
“The Province’s health capacity is experiencing a strain due to increasing cases of measles and we’re doing all we can to contain the outbreak. ExxonMobil PNG Limited, as a development partner, has been part of that response and I’d like to thank them for the medical equipment and consumables they’ve provided to us over the last few weeks,” he said.
In addition to the support being provided to the Province, EMPNG has also been offering clinical services and information sessions for its Hela-based workforce on how to deal with the measles outbreak.
