ExxonMobil PNG Limited, the operator of PNG’s first liquefied natural gas project, PNG LNG, was pleased to sponsor a networking event and executive dinner held at the Port Moresby Hilton Hotel to welcome Ms. Shauna Noonan, 2020 President of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).

President Noonan recently visited Papua New Guinea in her capacity as 2020 President elect of the SPE to meet with local engineers and industry leaders as part of a broader tour of the region.

Keith Killian, Executive Director for ExxonMobil PNG Limited, described the visit by the SPE President as a unique and exciting opportunity for young professionals to learn about the broader oil and gas industry and the importance of professional networking.

“SPE’s mission in knowledge transfer and developing technical and professional competence aligns well with our ongoing commitment in supporting PNG national content and capability development,” Mr Killian said.

The SPE PNG section was established in 1996 and is looking to expand its membership. President Noonan said it was an honour to speak with the many Papua New Guinean engineers who work in its growing industrial sector.

“I would like to see more young professional engineers become members of SPE’s local section in PNG so they can utilise the excellent capacity building opportunities we provide.

“We also want to assist local industry by equipping their engineers with comprehensive training programs that will advance their expertise and keep them up-to-date with best practices,” she said.

Invited by PNG LNG Project co-venture partner Santos Limited, President Noonan also took time while in PNG to meet with oil and gas executives and other industry professionals, and visited the world-class PNG LNG Plant outside Port Moresby.

The Society of Petroleum Engineers is the largest individual-member organisation serving more than 150,000 managers, engineers, scientists and other professionals worldwide in the upstream segment of the oil and gas industry.
