ExxonMobil PNG backs The Voice

ExxonMobil PNG (EMPNG) Limited, operator of the PNG LNG Project, has contributed K30, 000 to The Voice Inc (TVI) to help the organisation hold a fundraising dinner as part of its efforts to groom leadership in young Papua New Guineans.

TVI is a non-government organisation that provides leadership programs for students to complement their formal education. The organisation has been operating since 2007 at the University of Papua New Guinea, and this year established a new office at UniTech in Lae.

PNG LNG Project Executive, Decie Autin presented TVI management with the donation as part of a two-day visit to Lae last week.

“Supporting the work of The Voice Inc is important to us,” Ms Autin explained when announcing the donation to the organisation.

“Through this partnership we are contributing to the efforts that give students opportunities to develop leadership skills, and acquire mentoring support that inspires them to contribute positively to their communities.”

During the visit to Lae she also met with various students from across the campus and spoke with them about her experiences leading the construction of the PNG LNG Project. In particular, Ms Autin encouraged female students to take on leadership roles.

Ms Autin encouraged students to work hard in their studies, and be earnest in their role as emerging leaders and influencers.

The Voice Inc Programs Manager, Barbra Thomas and Unitech Student Representative Council Female Students Vice President, Constance Kuawba also expressed gratitude for the time that Decie spent with the female students.

“It was inspiring to hear from a women leader, from the largest resource development project in the country, sharing first-hand her insights about leading a team that accomplished such an important project that will contribute to the growth of PNG,” said Ms Thomas.

More than 300 students have gone through TVI’s leadership programs.
