The Prime Ministers’ Excellence Award program, with support from ExxonMobil PNG Limited, operator of PNG LNG, and facilitated by the Department of Education, today launched the PNG Teachers Excellence Awards to recognise and honor the contribution of teachers in Papua New Guinea.
The PNG Teachers Excellence Awards (PNGTEA) is calling for nominations for teachers who inspire students and foster intellectually challenging and supportive environments for their students, and head teachers who provide exemplary leadership and management in schools.
Education Minister Nick Kuman said, “We know that great teachers can change the direction of your life. Across this country, in rural and urban communities, we have many great teachers, who are seldom recognised or appreciated for the work they do.
“Through these awards we want to acknowledge their selfless efforts to set the highest of standards for our children, helping to grow our country”, he added
ExxonMobil PNG Managing Director Andrew Barry said PNG LNG was very proud to support these very important awards that recognise the important role of teachers in society.
“Education is a key driver to shaping and building lasting economic growth in any society. Our teachers are fundamental to developing and inspiring the next generation of leaders, engineers, accountants, economists, doctors, lawyers, innovators,” said Barry.
“ExxonMobil PNG invests heavily in education within the communities which we have our operations, through infrastructure projects like houses for teachers and capacity building programs, because we believe by supporting teachers they will in turn inspire their students,” he added.
The Awards will recognize teachers and principals whose dedication is motivating and changing the lives of children, helping them to build a better future for themselves, their families and their communities.
Details on how to apply can be found in the daily newspapers and at each provincial education office.
