PNG LNG Environmental Impact Assessment - NEW

The PNG LNG Project is committed to operating in an environmentally responsible manner.

The Project will be managed with an in-depth scientific understanding of the environmental impact of our operations as well as the social and economic needs of the local communities.

The PNG LNG project submitted its completed Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to the PNG Department of Environment and Conservation on 23 January 2009.

The EIS comprises extensive environmental, social and public health impact assessments that reviewed factors such as community needs, sensitive environmental habitats, and biodiversity.   It comprises more than 6 thousand pages and draws upon 26 supporting studies that took nearly two years to complete.

The EIS was conducted to identify any potential impacts on the environment and the people of the project area and to enable the Project to implement policies and procedures to mitigate adverse impacts and enhance beneficial ones.

The social, cultural and economic objectives of the PNG LNG Project are to deliver a project that has the potential to benefit local and wider communities with minimal impact on the environment, by:

  • Recognizing local amenity, values and culture of people directly affected by the project.
  • Managing environmental and social impacts.
  • Contributing to the state’s economy and human wellbeing.

Hard copies of the EIS are available for viewing at relevant Provincial Government offices and at the Department of Environment and Conservation office, Port Moresby.
